The Beaches

Strolling the beach boardwalk is a popular way to spend any fair-weather day. Take the time to count how many dog breeds you see. The Beaches has more dogs per capita than anywhere else in Toronto. There’s even a bakery where dog-lovers can find gourmet biscuits for their pampered pets.

Leslieville
Riding the Queen streetcar east towards The Beaches you’ll pass Leslieville. It’s a mix of eclectic stores, cafés and the odd bar. The area’s specialty, however, is a collection of boutiques sellingvintage home décor. A bit of window shopping could net you a gleaming martini set that could be the hit of your next party. Or a coffee table that once served as a farmer’s turn-of-the-century tool box.

Major Event
The Beaches International Jazz Festival makes a scene every July in Kew Gardens and other locations around The Beaches. With more than 400 musicians and free admission, this event is not to be missed.

Interesting Fact
The last amusement park in The Beaches had a giant waterslide that rowboats shot down, a Tunnel of Love and a wooden roller coaster. It closed in 1925.
