PATH Underground
The PATH’s origins go back over 100 years. In 1900, the T. Eaton Company connected its main store to its bargain outlet with a tunnel. Soon the tunnels started to spread. There were five tunnels downtown by 1917, but things really started to come together in 1987, when the city took over the system and named it the PATH. Now there are over 27 km of underground shopping to enjoy.
Ideal Destination
The Toronto Eaton Centre is on the PATH network and is a world-class shopping destination in itself. There are hundreds of stores and eateries under its airy atrium. Take a moment to enjoy Michael Snow’s sculpture “Flight Stop,” a flock of Canadian geese frozen in mid-air at the south end of the mall.
