Museums

With so many people from all over the world calling Toronto home, it is no wonder that there is a museum for almost every interest. There are several biggies.

The Royal Ontario Museum is undergoing a transformation designed by architect Daniel Libeskind, inspired by the museum’s unrivaled crystal collection. The Art Gallery of Ontario was recently promised a collection that includes the world’s most expensive painting, Rubens’ Massacre of the Innocents, which sold for $120 million. The McMichael Canadian Art Collection houses the largest collection of outstanding Canadian art, including the works of the Group of Seven. At the Ontario Science Centre you can discover exactly how hard you have to pedal in order to get your face on television.

The lesser-known museums are no less intriguing. There is the Redpath Sugar Museum for those with a sweet tooth. The 48th Highlanders Museum for those who love a man in a kilt. The Bata Shoe Museum for those with a foot fetish. The MZTV Museum of Television is for your inner couch potato. That’s just scratching the surface.

Ideal Destination
Want to visit a museum that’ll make for great cocktail party conversation back home? Try the History of Contraception Museum. Its 600+ items have been used from the beginning of time to prevent pregnancy. This includes elephant dung and IUDs shaped like angels.
