Green Toronto
Torontonians love their parks, which come in all shapes and sizes. High Park is so large it even has its own subway station. This park was deeded to the city by John Howard, Toronto’s first surveyor. Its 151 hectares includes a zoo, an amphitheatre where Shakespeare is staged every summer, a museum and countless quiet trails.
Hidden amongst the neighbourhoods of Toronto is one of its biggest secrets. The ravines. These are refuges from the rush of city life where countless kilometres of trails are waiting to be explored. Or try a Discovery Walk. There are nine in total, each revealing a different aspect of the city’s history and park system.
Interesting Fact
One of the city’s most unique parks is the Music Garden. Here the grounds are laid out in an interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello. The corresponding music can be heard while walking through the park. It’s located at the base of Lower Spadina Avenue.
