Koreatown

Always developing, Koreatown (or Little Korea) is one of Toronto’s smaller neighbourhoods - but it makes up for it with its reputation for fun and constant activity. This section of Bloor Street West is home to restaurants, Internet cafés, boutiques and even acupuncture clinics to soothe the body. The community also loves sports, so don’t be surprised to see Korean flags waving out of cars after a big soccer match.

The area is known for Korean barbeque – an extremely popular and social form of cuisine. Gather ‘round a table with friends at Korea House or Sejong and cook your own beef, pork or chicken on specially made indoor grills. If you’re more in the mood for noodle and soup dishes (the other big Korean delicacies), head to Joon’s or Umji for amazing bi bim bap or naeng myun. And nothing compliments a satisfying meal like warm, fresh walnut cakes! This tasty Korean dessert is made right in front of you at a variety of bakeries in the area.

After dinner, browse boutiques in the neighbourhood that sell high-end electronics, cell phones and unique Korean knick-knacks. You’ll find everything from cute stuffed animals to one-of-a-kind stationary that’s perfect for writing your friends and family. After you’ve finished shopping, you’ll be ready to experience Koreatown’s biggest draw – the karaoke. There are a number of campy karaoke clubs along Bloor Street that can host a party of three or thirty. Rent a private room at XO Karaoke and belt out power ballads with your travel companions, or step on stage at one of the Karaoke bars along the street to perform for strangers. No matter how you choose to do it, you’re sure to have amusing, unique (and maybe slightly embarrassing) memories.

Spend an evening here, and Koreatown will treat you to a flourishing community filled with fun, inspiration…and musical accompaniment.
